Herreshoff Marina Museum

The name Herreshoff is synonymous with sailing and the Americas Cup history.

Hershoff in Bristol Harbor

Location: Chart 13221. Located in the town of Bristol RI in Bristol Harbor. The marina is directly across from Hog Island.

Getting Ashore: Launch service available in season. Plenty of dinghy docks at the marina and along the harbor for various restaurants.

Shore Facilities: The heads and showers are among the best you'll find anywhere. The only problem is they are located in the museum and only available during business hours. The main street of Bristol is only a few blocks away. No problem with finding restaurants or shopping.

Bristol harbor in general is one of the best in the bay. It's well protected, has plenty or room for mooring or anchoring, accommodating of yachts and yachting people and there are plenty of places to visit.

Herreshoff is membership driven. If you happen to be a member the rate for a mooring drops $5 along with many other items. When you pay for a mooring you also get admission to the museum. It's a stop that all sailing enthusiasts should make at least once in a sailing lifetime.

Herreshoff recently joined forces with Mystic Seaport. A membership gets a lot of milage since it also gives you reciprocation at over 80 other museums. Not a bad  deal and you're supporting many worthy organizations.

Bristol is a worthy destination in itself. You don't get more americana than here. Fourth of July is a real celebration here with the oldest and longest running parade in the entire country. The shops along main street are quaint without being "touristy" as so many small towns are. They're just real mom and pop shops with no pretense. Bristol is in every sense just a real down-home town with a lot of history. If you want a place to stay a while with no pressure or yuppie atmosphere, you'll do well by visiting.
